Personal and Leadership Skills for Testers

Course Overview

As a part of the Testing Profession there is a need for all test professionals to have and exhibit effective communication, problem solving, emotional intelligence and leadership skills when participating in IT Projects and communicating with different Stakeholders and team members.

All of these skills lead to a reduction in conflict, the building of stronger relationships, improved team building and enriched work experiences and lead to significant benefits.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand what it means and what it takes to be a leader in life and in your chosen profession
  • Be able to apply your leadership skills in all situations
  • Understand and apply emotional intelligence
  • Understand the need for self awareness and be able to consciously apply self awareness
  • Appreciate the uniqueness of your team members
  • Learn how to approach conflict and to find resolution in conflict situations
  • Understand your teams' learning style and apply skills to effectively use their learning preferences
  • Recognise the debilitating results of stress and be able to apply techniques and skills to decrease this
  • Learn to communicate effectively
  • Be able to use problem solving techniques to understand the actual problem and to find a feasible solution
  • Understand and accept diversity in cultures
  • Be able manage time by using a variety of time management techniques

Course Delivery

Instructor led sessions enhanced by exercises and class discussions.

Course Assessment

There are no formal assessments on this course. To complete the course, delegates are required to attend both days and actively participate in exercises and discussions.

Course Content

Day 1

  • Defining leadership
  • Understanding ourselves and how we feel
  • Learning to express through the understanding and application of emotional intelligence
  • Understanding other people and their uniqueness.

Day 2

  • Managing stress through the understanding of what causes our stresses
  • Applying quick and clever techniques to minimise stress
  • Working with our preferred learning styles
  • Effective communication
  • Finding fast and smart ways to solve problems
  • Understanding our visions and goals
  • Understanding the value in cultural diversity
  • Using time and space management to our advantage.
