Business Process Modelling Fundamentals

Develop solid Business Process modelling skills using BPMN, and use these skills in the context of Business process management and enterprise architecture

Course Overview

Analysing business processes is an essential aspect of all initiatives which are designed to achieve business improvement. It is a confusing domain, riddled with acronyms, vested interests and different standards, especially with respect to notations for process modelling. Fortunately, some standards are maturing, driven by initiatives underwritten by bodies such as the Business Process Modelling Initiative (BPMI), the BPM Group and the Object ManagementGroup (OMG).

This course is designed to give delegates the knowledge and skills required to accurately analyse and model existing business processes and to use these models to identify areas of the business which could be improved either through automating the processes using IT systems or redesigning a process to be more efficient. Much of the course is aimed at developing the thinking skills and mental framework for effective process modelling rather than merely teaching notation and methodology.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the basic concepts of business process modelling, includingthe broad frameworks, standards, notations and methodologies
  • Learn how to establish the strategic and organisational bases for business process modelling
  • Scope, analyse and document as-is and to-be business processes
  • Perform a gap analysis and identify opportunities for business process improvement
  • Understand change management and implementation issues when rolling out new processes
  • Be able to derive business rules and business requirements from a BPM process
