Mentee Workshop

Learn how to get the most out of participating in a mentorship programme

Course Overview

There is a real need for organisations to support learners, interns and employees to help them develop their skills, self awareness and emotional intelligence to maximise their potential in being valuable contributors to the organisation, their communities and society at large. 

Mentees fortunate enough to have a mentor assigned to them can benefit greatly from a Mentoring Relationship where they will learn to manage their own challenges, reach beyond their own boundaries and expand their knowledge base with more confidence.

This 2 day Mentee workshop will provide a fun opportunity for Mentees to learn about themselves, their motivations for growth, about their expectations and needs and how they can get the most from their Mentoring Relationship.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the benefits of a comprehensive and supported mentorship program
  • Identify and express realistic needs and expectations of a mentor
  • Understand the boundaries in a mentorship relationship
  • Practice being effective mentees who are self-aware, know their strengths and weaknesses and who take responsibility for solving their own problems with the support of their mentor
  • Demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity
  • Be able to co-create a mentorship plan with their mentor including goal setting as well as monitoring and review activities
  • Be able to receive feedback and apply the learnings 
  • Understand and value the closure of the relationship
 

Course Delivery

The programme comprises instructor-led training seminars, supplemented by readings, exercises and practical group work. 

Various formats are available, ranging from public to in-house courses, as well as part-time, full-day or hybrid formats.

Course Assessment

There are no formal assessments for this course. However, to earn a certificate of attendance, delegates will be required to:

  • Attend both course days
  • Actively participate in exercises and discussion workshops

Course Content

Day 1:

  • History of the 'Mentor' concept,
  • The benefits of a mentorship programme
  • What makes a mentorship relationship successful or not successful
  • Types of mentors
  • Roles of mentors and mentees
  • Mentoring relationships
  • Realistic expectations from a mentorship relationship 
Day 2:
  • Practice being a mentee
  • Learn how to receive feedback constructively
  • Appreciation of cultural diversity
  • Mentorship programme planning and monitoring 
  • Relationship orientation, closure, and evaluation
