Project Management Essentials

Use simple yet powerful project management techniques to help boost your effectiveness in the business environment

Course Overview

Project Management is not only for project managers!

Today more and more business people handle smallto medium sized projects, such as year-end functions, marketing campaigns or planning company events.

Project Management Essentials cuts through all the project management jargon and equips you with simple, yet powerful  techniques that you will be able to apply immediately in the work place. These techniques will increase your effectiveness and efficiency, while reducing the stress as you plan, organise and control business projects.
 

Course Objectives:

After completing this course, delegates will be able to:

  • define work clearly and set measurable objectives
  • understand the importance of soft skills in achieving project objectives
  • understand how different stakeholders view success in different ways
  • break projects down into manageable pieces
  • estimate and schedule tasks
  • understand how to determine and allocate resources effectively
  • understand and plan for uncertainty
  • monitor progress and make adjustments to plan where necessary
  • manage change

 

Course Delivery

The course comprises instructor-led training, supplemented by readings, exercises and practical group work. Workplace assignments, coupled with rich feedback, ensure that the delegate is able to apply the skills directly in the workplace.

Course Assessment

There are no formal assessments (exams, tests, presentations, etc.) for this course. However, to earn a certificate of attendance, delegates will be required to:

  • Attend all the course days
  • Actively participate in the exercises and discussion
  • Present information about their selected project to the class on the third day.

 

Course Content

Day 1: Planning a project
Define a project and set measurable objectives
Break work down into manageable chunks
Estimate and schedule tasks
Determine resources required and allocate resources to tasks
Plan for uncertainty
Delegation and negotiation

Day 2: Managing a project
Communicate with stakeholders
Motivate project contributors
Problem solving and decision making
Manage time effectively
Monitor project progress and make adjustments

Day 3: Putting it all together
Present your project to the class and get feedback
Learn to manage changes to requirements
Lessons learned and course summary

 

Course Prerequisites

Delegates are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences - no exclusions.

Accreditation

FTI is a PMI® registered Education Provider.  This course delivers 21 PDU’s as defined by the Institute.  These can be used towards international PMP® certification.

Faculty Training Institute holds the following institutional accreditations:

  • Provisionally accredited as an Education and Training Provider with the MICT Seta (ACC/2010/00/601).
  • Registered Education Provider (REP 2841) with the Project Management Institute (PMI®).
