Course Overview

Project Management is not only for project managers!

Today more and more business people handle small to medium sized projects, such as year-end functions, marketing campaigns or planning company events.

Project Management for Business People cuts through all the project management jargon and equips you with simple, yet powerful techniques that you will be able to apply immediately in the work place. These techniques will increase your effectiveness and efficiency, while reducing the stress as you plan, organise and control business projects.

 

Course Delivery

The course delivery comprises instructor-led seminars interspersed with extensive practical exercises for both the group and the individual

Course Prerequisites

Delegates are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences - no exclusions.

 

Course Assessment

To complete the course, delegates are required to:

  • attend all the course days

  • actively participate in the exercises and discussions

  • present information about their selected project to the class

 

Course Accreditation

FTI is a Registered Education Provider with the Project Management Institute.

FTI was was approved as an Education & Training Provider with the ISETT SETA in January 2003. FTI is currently in the process of applying for full accreditation, which depends on the future structure of SAQA and the National Qualifications Framework (NQF

This course falls into a category loosely defined by SAQA as ‘vocational short courses’ because it requires less than a year’s full-time study.

Day 1: Planning a project

  • Define a project and set measurable objectives

  • Break work down into manageable chunks

  • Estimate and schedule tasks

  • Determine resources required and allocate resources to tasks

  • Plan for uncertainty

  • Delegation and negotiation

Day 2: Managing a project

  • Communicate with stakeholders

  • Motivate project contributors

  • Problem solving and decision making

  • Manage time effectively

  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments

Day 3: Putting it al together

  • Present your project to the class and get feedback

  • Learn to manage changes to requirements

  • Lessons learned and course summary
