Project & Programme Management Portfolio

Published: 2015-04-01

According to PMI's 2012 edition of the annual “Pulse of the Profession” publication, slow economic growth, shifting global market priorities and a push for innovation are all factors contributing to the complexity in which businesses need to operate and thrive. Businesses have to focus on “doing more with less”. The 2012 Pulse suggests that organisations can improve performance, reduce risk, save money and earn a greater return on investments through “excellence in basic project management execution “

According to thePMBOK®Guide, the activities involved in managingaproject include:

  • Identifying requirements
  • Managing the needs, expectations and concerns of stakeholders
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders
  • Managing stakeholders towards meeting project requirements and creating project deliverables
  • Balancing competing project constraints including Scope, Quality, Schedule, Budget, Resources and Risk

In order to carry out the above activities, project managers need a combination of “hard” or technical project management skills such as estimating and scheduling, analysing and managing risks and creating budgets, as well as having “soft” skills such as leadership, team motivation, influencing, change managementand conflict management.

Faculty Training Institute offers a number of courses suited to project managers at many levels as well as to those wishing to enter the field for the first time.
