Company Profile

Faculty Training Institute is a Proprietary company, registered in South Africa.  From our small beginnings as a partnership of lecturers offering part-time training in Cape Town, it has grown to become a substantial and influential organisation at the heart of skills development in critical knowledge skills in South Africa.  We were acquired by EOH in 2013 and now form a core part of the EOH Academies.

Core Business

FTI's main business is skills development, but to stereotype us as a 'training company' would be to underestimate the value that we contribute to company and delegate alike.  Our targeted skills domains lie at the intersection of Technology and Business, at the point where organisations can maximise value.  The kinds of skills we focus on include:

  • Business and Systems Analysis
  • Project Management, and Project Administration
  • Quality Assurance and Testing
  • Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Communication skills (Presentations, Workshop facilitation, meeting management, Business and Technical Writing)
  • Enterprise Architecture and Business Architecture
  • Information and Data Modelling
  • Business Process Modelling and Business Process Management
  • Agile in partnership with Kaizania

Products And Services

We offer training courses aimed at developing the skills of delegates in our target markets.  We also offer value-added services that allow organisations to derive better return on their training investment.

Training Courses

  • Our Qualifications are aimed at the career needs of key individuals.  These are vocational qualifications that cover multiple skills in a part-time format over several months.  In many cases, we have sought global accreditation or endorsement with the appropriate professional bodies so that delegates are able to obtain professional development units with these bodies (refer to individual course outlines for details).   Some are globally endorsed by professional bodies, while others are registered as national qualifications in South Africa.
  • Our short courses, usually 2-5 days in length, offer in-depth coverage of specific, focused skills.

More information can be obtained from our Course Calendar and Course Portfolio Pages

Professional Services

Our value-added services are designed to help organisations  ensure that they obtain enduring value from training, whether this be by helping them select the correct delegate,  or by ensuring that the work environment has evolved to support the high-end training that we deliver.  These services, which are described in more detail elsewhere on this site,  include:

  • Organisational Maturity Assessments
  • Workshop customisation and course development
  • Coaching and mentoring services
  • Job profiling
  • Employee profile assessment and screening
  • Competency assessments
  • Methodology development and customisation
  • Change Management

Geographic footprint

With our head office in Rivonia and a campus at Estuaries, Century City , Cape Town, we are well placed to serve our main markets in South Africa.   Our flexible delivery model means that we do a substantial amount of training on-site at large corporates, and selected courses are available in other centres.

Selected courses are already available as on-site options outside of South Africa.

Our people

FTI prides itself on the quality of its administrative and academic staff.  While academic credentials and ability are important, we recruit staff primarily for their passion, professionalism and team spirit.

Our administrative staff are responsible for the behind-the-scenes running of courses.  Since part of our ethos is to challenge delegates to push the boundaries of their own capabilities, training can be a stressful process, especially when assignments and exams come around.  Their job is to ensure that our delegates experience the best possible experience while they are on our training courses, and they need to be strict but fair and caring when doing this.  They all subscribe to FTI's Code of Ethics and Value System.

We have people to handle

  • Marketing and client liaison
  • Office Management and Venue hire
  • Course administration
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Human resources
  • Catering and housekeeping

Like most busy, growing companies, we don't always get it right, but we are frequently complimented on how helpful and caring our admin staff are, especially at one of our many graduation parties!

Our academic staff are very special people indeed.  Since our courses are much more than a series of lectures, and are very practical in nature, our academic staff need to be able to walk-the-walk, as well as talk-the-talk.  They are not only great facilitators and teachers, but they are able to coach, advise and mentor delegates as they complete their practical work.  Since a key objective of our training approach is to develop delegates who have the self-confidence and knowledge to apply their skills when they leave us, they have been carefully coached to 'facilitate learning' rather than 'teach' .  Our more experienced academic staff fill a number of roles, including

  • Course Manager
  • Lecturer or facilitator
  • Assessor, examiner or moderator

All academic staff need to undergo a thorough accreditation process, and our ongoing quality monitoring systems ensure that they are continually improving the quality and consistency of our educational programmes

The consulting staff in our Professional Services Division are experienced practitioners, drawn from our academic staff, and practitioners from industry.  We do not body-shop.  Instead, all resources are fully accredited in the products and services that they are consulting in, whether they are an Accredited FTI Performance Coach, a Competency Assessor, a Methodology Specialist or  a Course Developer.
