Incorporating the National Certificate: Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Software Testing

FTI has designed this highly innovative and comprehensive qualification to accommodate the changes in the Quality Assurance and Testing landscape and to align with trends in digital transformation and cyber security. The aim is to equip you with career relevant skills from a Business, Software Development and Quality Assurance perspective so that you are a cross-skilled Solutions Consultants or Tester of the Future.

Who should attend?

Broadly speaking, the qualification is for current or aspiring Software Test Engineers with holistic IT knowledge across organisations. Specifically, it is aimed at testing and quality assurance roles ranging from Software Engineers in Test, Software Quality Engineers, Test Managers, Test Analysts to Testers. It is also suitable for Business Analysts, Project Managers, Developers and any IT professional wanting to evolve into and work in a quality-driven environment.

Programme Information

Entry Requirements
You will need:
  • At least 6 months experience in a Testing Team as part of an IT Project Team or
  • To have attended a testing short course equivalent to or similar to FTI’s Fundamentals of Software Quality Assurance.
Delivery and Assessment
We use a blend of face-to-face facilitator-led seminar sessions and extensive practical exercises, self-study, homework and assignments to embed theory and skills. During the programme you will receive comprehensive course notes and templates to help you work faster and smarter. You will need to:
  • Attend seminar sessions for six months part time, totaling 224 hours.
  • Demonstrate theoretical and practical understanding of programme content.
  • Participate in and contribute to group discussions, case studies and workshops.
  • Complete individual self-study activities such as reading, weekly homework and monthly assignments.
  • Practice your interpersonal communications skills and share ideas and experiences with your peer group.
  • Complete and formally document and submit formative and summative assessments as part of the Portfolio of Evidence (PoE).
To receive your National Certificate: ICT Software Testing, you will need to be found competent on your PoE.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this programme, you will have a solid foundation in Software Testing and knowledge and skills in:
  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
  • Understanding and interpreting requirements
  • Developing basic software programmes and architecting working databases
  • Creating test cases with automation in mind and executing testing against software applications
  • Generating quality documents aligned to ISO/IEEE/IEC 29119 standards
  • Executing test cases and simultaneously tracking task progress and conducting defect management
  • The production implementation process
  • Test management and Software Testing performance and automation tools
  • Adding value to your delivery team and understanding the different roles and responsibilities of IT Testing team members
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving
