in Software Testing (Coming Soon)

This is a comprehensive skills programme designed to develop testing professionals into multi-skilled software practitioners. Our programme is highly practical which means you can immediately apply what you learn in the workplace. The advantage lies in its international certification and you have the option of gaining the MICT SETA accreditation.

Who should attend?

Testers, test analysts, test and project managers and business analysts who need to be involved in the entire software development life cycle to ensure quality.

Programme Information

Entry Requirments
  • You need to have at least six months experience in a functioning and busy testing team
  • Or

  • You need to have been part of an IT Project Team in any IT role
  • Or

  • You must have attended FTI’s short course Fundamentals of Software Quality Assurance or Effective User Acceptance Testing
  • And

  • You must have a working laptop with MS Access 2000 upwards, MS Word and MS Excel
  • You must complete a course application and pre-assessments to ensure you meet the qualification entry requirements
Delivery and Assessment

We use a blend of face-to-face lecturer-facilitated training and practical workplace assignments to embed skills. You will need to:

  • Attend full and half-day (or evening) lectures and seminar sessions
  • Demonstrate theoretical and practical understanding of programme content
  • Participate in and contribute to group discussions, case studies and workshops
  • Submit and pass the following assessments: Level Test Plan Document, Test Plan Presentation, Level Test Case Document, Anomaly Report, Level Test Report and a theoretical test.
  • Complete a final practical examination
  • Obtain a final overall course mark of 50% as well as a sub-minimum of 50% for the final exam
  • If you wish to obtain ISTQB Foundation Level certification you must sit and pass an independent examination administered by SASTQB. If you wish to gain credits towards the National Certificate in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Software Testing (SAQA ID 83026), you will need to:
  • Compile, submit and be found competent on a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE)

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme, you will have developed a solid grounding in software testing theory and practise, as well as core skills such as:

  • Creating, executing and tracking test cases and task progress to ensure requirements are met and defect management is implemented
  • Understanding the production implementation process and different SDLC methodologies
  • Generating quality documents in line with the IEEE 829 – 2008 standards
  • Understanding the test management, performance and automation tools used in software testing
  • Network, Excel, SQL, documenting and review skills
  • Working in and understanding IT testing teams and developing and maintaining IT project stakeholder relationships
  • Effective problem-solving
