Principles of

This introductory two day short course covers the fundamentals and principles of Agile, Scrum and Kanban and will give you the techniques to manage projects using an agile approach. It is a highly engaging and interactive workshop with a focus on team-based learning, to ensure you gain practical experience.

Who should attend?

Any individual, manager or organisation that wants to move to an agile development environment. It will be especially beneficial to Systems Development and IT Managers, Business Analysts, Technical Specialists, Business Managers, Product owners and Project Managers.

Course Information

Entry Requirements

There are no specific or strict entry requirements, but we recommend that you have experience working with systems development, project management or business analysis processes.

Ideally, you need to be able to apply and practice the skills learnt on the course to your own job, to derive the most value.

Delivery and Assessment

We use a blend of face-to-face facilitator-led seminar sessions and practical individual and group exercises, to embed theory and skills.

To gain an FTI Certificate of Attendance, you will need to:
  • Attend two full days
  • Actively participate in activities and discussions so that you learn by practising techniques, sharing knowledge and experience, and completing exercises in a simulated environment
Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will have a solid theoretical foundation and practical skills in using the key Agile methodologies. You will be able to:

  • Describe the origins of the Agile approach
  • Understand the principles and practice of Agile
  • Explain the difference between Waterfall and Agile methods
  • Understand and apply Lean principles
  • Understand Kanban for software development
  • Discuss Agile planning, requirements overview, user stories, estimation, reporting and metrics
  • Appreciate the critical success factors in using Agile methodologies
  • Understand the importance of self-organising teams and the core values of commitment, focus, openness and respect
